Sri Lankans CC vs Bangladesh Paphos CC

Sunday, Oct 25, 2009

This Sunday’s only league game was played on Happy Valley 1. Bangladesh Paphos CC electing to bat after winning the toss and looking to win and push themselves up the league table in their last game of the season.

The opening batsmen making a bright start with some big hits to the boundaries and after 5 overs a good looking and confident 25/0 was on the board. However, the introduction of Kapila changed that with him taking 4 wickets in his spell of 8 overs and put the Bangladesh team on the back foot and looking like they may fall short of a competitive total.

But Skipper Babu (47no) coming in down the order had different ideas and kept his head and worked the bowling well taking a total of 22 off one Manju over. With Babu's help the last pair put on 53 to make a competitive total of 173/9.

Could the Bangladesh bowlers contain the big hitting openers of the Sri Lankans?

No they couldn't and after 5 overs of their pace attack the Sri Lankans were 47/0. Consequently, Bangladeshi's took the pace off the ball and the introduction of Linkon, Arif and Babu slowed the run rate and a couple of wickets worried the Sri Lankans until Manju (25) and Kapila (60no) steadied the innings with a partnership of 59 runs. The Bangladesh bowlers having no answer to Kapila's straight bat and quick running and Manju big hits and the Sri Lankans ran out comfortable winners by 4 wickets and with 11 overs to spare.
