MYERSCOUGH v MOUFFLONS/WSBA

May 6, 2009 – On a cloudy afternoon, a joint Moufflons / WSBA side hosted the touring Myerscough College side at Happy Valley for a 20-20 game. The young enthusiastic cricketers from the Red Rose County playing the Cyprus National side over the weekend, took this opportunity to get acclimatized to the Cyprus conditions.

Moufflons / WSBA after winning the toss decided to bowl first, and the decision paid off immediately; as opening bowler Marcus Holden got rid off both the openers in the opening spell. A disciplined performance from the hosts in the field did not help the cause of the tourists, as they finished on a respectful 110 runs for 8 wickets after allotted 20 overs. Sunderland with a knock of 31 was the highest contributor for the visitors. For the hosts Marcus Holden, Alan Broadbent, and Richard Hughes got 2 wickets apiece.

Moufflons / WSBA reply got off to a flying start as the openers Aidie & Andy Mulkern posted a fifty runs opening stand in 10 overs. Though the tourists tried hard but it seems the lady luck was not on their side as the batsmen edges kept finding the gaps, much to the frustration of the bowlers. Though, Moufflons / WSBA lost the two opening batsmen in the run chase, however, it was a case of too little too late for the tourists. In the end Moufflons / WSBA registered an 8 wickets victory.
