WEALDSTONE v
MOUFFLONS
On a fine day at Happy Valley
Moufflons took on visitors Wealdstone Corinthians. The visitors consisted
largely of veterans and play social cricket in England. Moufflons won the toss and
opted to take the field. Wealdstone's openers were resilient but did not find
scoring easy against a somewhat erratic Moufflons bowling display. Patel
looked comfortable but was eventually undone by a good Hassan delivery. After 12 overs they had reached 40 for
one wicket. Shah hung around for quite a time with some interesting calling and
running and when partnered with Naylor the run rate did improve marginally.
After Shah's departure Matthews came in and again a partnership started to
develop but the Wealdstone blades did not flash so often and only 3 boundaries
came off the bat in their innings. Cundy helped the total towards the end of
their 35 overs. Moufflons used 10 bowlers in all. Whilst some of the
bowling was tight it was also at times very poor with a total of 73 extras
being conceded which must be something of a record even by Moufflons standards,
of these 44 were wides. However it must be said that Moufflons own veteran
behind the stumps did at times struggle to bend his back to get down to a few
loose balls. Moufflons fielded well and stuck at the task throughout their time
in the filed. After 35 overs
Wealdstone had accumulated 160 for 3. Pick of the bowling for
Moufflons, Hassan 3 overs for 4 runs, Alan 4 overs for 9 runs, Robel six
overs for 14 runs.
Moufflons opened with Hassan and
Van. Van being on a string of ducks seemed determined to prove himself and
opened his account with a huge six followed by quite a few more lofty blows
however the openers for Wealdstone were quite tidy and after 12 overs Moufflons
had reached 55 for 3 with the game very much in the balance. Ian and Robel
settled down and a good partnership developed and the run rate crept up. Ian
ended his innings with a runner and eventually retired on 50. Dev came in to
partner Robel and with the 161 target rapidly approaching it looked at though
Robel would miss out on his own 50 however he had other things in mind and
finished off with a 4 and a big 6 to end on 55 not out and Moufflons on 164 for
3 in the 29th over. Pick of the Wealdstone bowlers was Brown with 7 overs for
22 and Cundy with 4 overs for 11.
The weather conditions, pitch and
outfield were all quite different to what Wealdstone were used to but
nevertheless it was a competitive game played in good spirit and enjoyed by
all. After the game Wealdstone presented a commemorative signed miniature
bat to the Moufflons. Moufflons responded by presenting a plaque to commemorate
their visit.
WEALDSTONE v AMDOCS
Sporting
their new team name, the name of the company for whom all their players are
employed, Himalayans/Amdocs were the opposition for Wealdstones second game of
their tour. Beaten by Moufflons the day before Wealdstone were a little
apprehensive of the strength of their new opponents. And with good reason as
they found themselves skittled out for 65. Amdocs held back their strongest
batsmen but could not prolong the game for more than 20 overs. Most notable among
their batsmen was Sunil top scoring with 22 and making the first six of his
long career.
