20/20 FINAL played at Happy Valley 5th December

SRI LANKAN CC v LIONS
Lions, put in to bat, must of hoped for a repeat performance of the semi from their top three batsmen. Unfortunately it was not to be. Pushed onto the back foot by some fast hostile bowling from Sri Lankan opening bowlers Chamara and Nirosh, Murthada and Obudu never settled. Murthada was soon out, caught off Chamara for 0, soon followed by Dias caught off Nirosh for 0.

An unfortunate mix up between Bazeeg and Obudu led to Obudu's run out for 9. Their top order batsmen dismissed it was left to the middle order to put on a decent total. But Sri lankans bowling was just too good. With Chamara and Nirosh followed by Sampath, Pradeep and Shantha, there just was no weakness for the batsmen to exploit. Usman made a determined 16 to top score but the total of 58 all out after 17 overs was never going to be enough against a team with as much batting talent as the Sri Lankan CC.
Danuka and top scorer this season for the Sri Lankans, Dileepa, opened the Sri lankan innings. Bazeeg toiled nobly, and despite the early wicket of the dangerous Danuka for 1, could not find the wizardry that had seen him take wickets in the semi.

Dileepa, as we have come to expect, untroubled by the Lions med pace bowling was scoring freely, supported by Janaka. Needing wickets Lion's captain Fasi bowled his deceptively innocuous off spin, first bowling out Janaka for 11 and then taking Dileepa lbw for 24. But it was all too late. Nalaga (9no) and Nalil (5no) methodically finished the innings taking Sri Lankan CC to an easy victory, scoring 59 after just 8.3 overs.
Sri Lankan CC are the 20/20 champions for 2004.
