Over Easter a team of under 15 year olds traveled from Cyprus to Corfu to play cricket.
This was the first time a tour of any age group has been organized from Cyprus and not enough praise can be given to Colin for his initiative and plain hard work in organizing the tour and building up a cricket team from nothing .All the boys came from Foleys School where Colin is a teacher.
In practise games before the tour it was clear that the standard of cricket was quite good, but noone was prepared for the 2 victories from the three games played in Corfu and certainly not for the century scored by young Kabir in one of the games.

Corfu is famous for its special Easter celebrations. Corfu is also the home of cricket in Hellas.Played at the Marina Ground but also at the Main Square (Esplanade) Ground, in the heart of historic Corfu Town, it is the perfect venue. History was made in Easter Week 2005 by the first ever visit by a Cyprus cricket team to an overseas country. 17 young cricketers from Foleys School accompanied by their teachers and parents arrived to Corfu on the 23rd of April. They spent 5 days in the island and played two games against youth Hellenic teams. On the 25th took place a coaching clinic where young Corfiot & Cyprus cricketers had the opportunity to practice by Hellenic coaches. Youth development of cricket in Cyprus started only 6 years ago, but already Cyprus has a team in the U13 age group. The visit to Corfu to play "friendly" cricket matches was to help Cyprus get experience and of course the Cyprus cricketers to meet new friends in Hellas.

Colin and some of the boys will give an account of the tour which will appear here later, but for now congratulations to the Foley Under 15šs and to Kabir for his maiden century.
Colin is continuing with his coaching sessions and games on Friday afternoons at Happy Valley. Give him a ring if any other boys want to join in. His phone number at Foleys is 25582191.
