Fellows v Srilankans
Srilankans who were once undefeatable returned to the cricket league last year with support from Mr Vikramasinghe, and had had a miserable inauguration, finding it hard to win a game. But in this competition they are back to their winning ways.
Fellows batted first and set off well, with a fine controlled innings from opener Tim who held the top half of the innings together, joined by Zeeshan (20), finally caught off Malanga for 58. With only 2 runs contributed by the middle order, it was the tail Sandi (29), Balbir (16) and a 36 run partnership between the two Chris’s at 10 and 11 that brought Fellows score to a comfortable 198 ao in the 38th over. Off spinner Ramya had been the lead bowler for the Srilankans with figures of 3 for 15 runs from his 7 overs.
With their top 3 batsmen out for 19 runs, one to Mike and two to Chris, Srilankans must have felt forlorn and Fellows certainly felt confident. No 4 Nalin and captain Malanga gradually clawed the game back. When Malanga (29) was caught of Sandi, Sujamantha (29) took his place and continued the fight back. Two run outs revived Fellows spirits, but despite all efforts could take no further wickets. In the 29th over Srilankans passed Fellows total with Nalin (39) and Amila (22) both not out. Nalin had been batting from the 5th over and had been the cornerstone of the Srilankan victory. Fellows did not help themselves by giving away 57 extras, effectively reducing their own batting total to 141.
