This year two professional cricket coaches from the Cyprus Cricket Association came to the American Academy Junior School to teach Grades 5 and 6 how to play cricket. During March we had lessons every Friday.
The two grades were taught how to catch cricket balls, how to bat, wicket keeping and how to field. Some students found it difficult at first but with practice and encouragement from Mr Philip and Mr Andrew, they finally understood and became good at the various techniques. All the students found their strongest positions and their weakness in the game and each one of us improved. We all had preferences, some enjoyed batting, some preferred fielding whilst others even said they likes wicket keeping most.
The cricket lessons became very popular amongst the students and we all really looked forward to Fridays. We were heart-broken when the lessons came to an end and it’s especially hard for those of us in Grade 6 as we will no longer be at the school when Mr Philip and Mr Andrew return next year.
All the students involved really hope they do return next year because we all agreed,
‘Cricket is the best PE lesson ever!’
