Mustangs obliterated Kazepis on Sunday in a one-sided final of the Spring Moneygram T20 competition, winning by 9 wickets with 8 overs to spare.
Both Mustangs and Kazepis had been in great form during the league season, each losing only one game, and indeed it was Kazepis who finished top, giving them direct entry to the final. Mustangs had to beat Fellows in a play-off to reach the final.
Happy, after winning the toss and electing to field, removed the dangerous Umair in the first over, and Kazepis were reduced to 8 for 3 after 5 overs and 34 for 4 in the 9th over. They were partly revived by a partnership of 49 between captain Zahid (34) and Shahid (37), but then subsided to 117 for 9 at the end of their 20 overs.
The Mustangs opening bowlers did most of the damage with Happy 3 for 8 and Vikas 3 for 14 in their 4-over spells.
When their turn to bowl came, Kazepis fared no better, with only Baber (1-16 from 4 overs) restricting the batsmen. Bimal got Mustangs off to a good start with a rapid 18, but the star of the show once again was Rupinder who hit a majestic unbeaten 75, well supported by Rehman with 16 not out.
At the end of a sporting but one-sided game trophies and medals were presented to the teams. In addition there were individual awards for performances throughout the season to Rupinder (best batsman) and Imran of Moufflons CC (best bowler).
Cricket will restart in September with a 40-over league. Any new teams interested in joining should email info@cypruscricket.com
