Fellows v Eastern Cyprus
Felllows went to Dherenia with mixed expectations. The last encounter with Eastern Cyprus only two weeks before had ended in defeat, with the only consolation that this had been a practice game.
This time choosing to bat first, Fellows lost their first wicket the first ball opener Balbir faced. All the more impressive then that Mike went on to craft a powerful century, the first of the competition, aided first by Zeeshan (38) and then Sonu (35). He was finally bowled by Raj for 115. Chris M held up the middle order (31 no) to give Fellows an unassailable total of 259 for 5.
Fellows opening three overs were a disaster, conceding 47 runs. But the medium pace of Niroshan and Mike, steadied the wobbly attack, pulling down the run rate dramatically, so that the spin of Balbir ( 2 for 14) and the incutters of Mandeep (2 for 16) could take wickets as Eastern Cyprus went for desperately needed runs. After Eastern Cyprus top scorer Raj (57) had ran himself out it was just a matter of time before the game would end in Fellows”s favour.
Fellows 259 for 5. Eastern Cyprus 157 for 7.
