Epi Lions finish with a win
The last regular match of the T20 season, before the play-off and final, saw Episkopi Lions clinch 4th place in the table with a 23-run victory over Moufflons, who themselves would have taken fourth place with a win.
An unfamiliar Epi team, featuring some guest players from Akrotiri and elsewhere, were indebted to a fine 65 from newcomer Rico Shelton and an aggressive 30 by skipper Baig, as well as an excessive number of wides, as they reached a competitive score of 135 for 6 from their 20 overs.
All the wickets were taken by Moufflons’ trio of spin bowlers. Sohel picked up three with his legspin, but the pick of the bowlers was debutant Ahmad whose slow left arm brought him figures of 2 for 14 from his 4 overs.
Moufflons’ reply was extremely disappointing, with only Murtaza (24) and Imran reaching double figures as they struggled to 112 all out.
The Lions’ bowling was consistently good, apart from another large helping of wides. Richard Crossley was the outstanding performer, his left-arm swing accounting for 4 wickets for 29 runs. Shelton followed up his batting by taking 3 for 24, and there were wickets also for Asif and Andy Spring.
So the game ended with a happy Epi Lions celebrating victory, while Moufflons look forward to the longer format in the autumn when they will hope for better results.
