NicosiaTigers reputation preceded them following their unexpectedly easy win over 20 and 40 over champions Mustangs so Fellows were expecting a hard game.
.
Put into bat, the Tigers were soon in a spot of bother as Niroshan, bowled both openers for 16 runs in an unerringly accurate opening spell. Fellows were now hopeful that their first game had been just a blip and that Tigers were not so frightening after all.
But number 3 Saddam steadied the innings and by the time he was out, caught of spinner Balbir at the third attempt, on 48 the Tigers were on 106 and feeling more confident. No 7 Hridoy took up the attack taking the score to 172 when he was LBW to Mike on 41. Fellows might have felt reasonably content with a final Tiger’s score of 185 after 35 overs.
Fellows batting has been its Achilles heel for the past season. Despite a steady opening spell by Mike and Tim, and a defiant innings from captain Sonu, top scoring with 22, once againt it was their batting that let Fellows down. That six batsmen were bowled testifies to the overconfident shots that some were playing to Tiger’s effective and accurate bowling. Spinner Rahat finished the innings with a hat trick, with four wickets falling on 85, which was Fellows final score, 100 runs behind the Tigers. Rahat had taken five wickets for 16 runs.
Thanks to Rudolph for developing the Lakatamia stadium, without which playing cricket would have been certainly more difficult this autumn season.
